We're in a crowded market, competing with the high street, e-tailers as well as specialist boutique shops.

How then can we make ourselves stand out? Not an easy answer, perhaps it’s about finding something that’s very special about the product or service – one that no-one else offers.

Sometimes, it’s hard to know exactly what this special something is: – Take a buggy for example: They all have wheels, they all carry babies/toddlers, they all fold… Why does a customer choose one buggy over another? – As mums we instinctively know what our baby/child needs – But sometimes it’s difficult to recognise or understand what another child/mum might want out of their buggy. Different things will appeal to different groups of parents.

Understanding why a customer wants/needs something is the beginning of working out how the product/service will stand out from a competitor's.
